Director of Technical Operations
Overview:
As Director of Operations you will define the operations environments and build and manage the ops team to support the launch and subsequent product growth. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will be responsible for the overall management of infrastructure operations and services, information storage, security, and compliance. The candidate ensures enforcement of infrastructure standards, and drives continuous improvement in services and cost to serve. This is initially a hands-on roll during early stages, taking more a more hands-off roll as the team grows.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Planning and operation of key technology systems
• System-level architecture in collaboration with the chief architect
• Working with key business and technical leaders to define and maintain SLAs on both internal and external products.
• Selection, negotiation, and management of vendors
• Building and managing an operations team
• Disaster recovery planning, preparation, and readiness
• Work with outsource IT provider ensuring a consistent and reliable communications, collaboration, and security infrastructure for internal users
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate must be a proven leader and will have successfully led the technical operations of a company as it has grown in scale to at least 1M unique visitors a month
• 12+ years of relevant experience in systems and infrastructure, including information security and compliance or related experience.
• 5+ years experience leading systems operations teams or infrastructure platforms group for startup and/or large internet firms with geographically dispersed audiences
• Extensive experience in overseeing the operations of a high- volume environment, preferably a large-scale website or online ad serving.
• Should have deep experience with LAMP, SOA, noSQL data stores, and Hadoop .
• Strong understanding of hardware, security, storage area network, and database capacity
• Demonstrated experience with systems administration on Linux
• Ability to manage a remote team
• Advanced troubleshooting and problem analysis skills
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to synthesize technical data for non-technical audiences
• Experience implementing Change Control, Configuration Management and Incident Management systems
• Experience with virtualization technologies such as ESX, KVM, and/or Xen
